The School of Hotel and Restaurant Management offers a bachelor degree program. The Bachelor of Hotel and Restaurant Administration is a unique academic offering in the entire University of Puerto Rico system.

The Bachelor of Hotel and Restaurant Administration offers the opportunity to choose between two areas of emphasis: Hotel Administration and Food and Beverage Operations Management. The School of Hotel and Restaurant Administration was the first institution to offer university degrees in this discipline on the Island and the first to be accredited in Puerto Rico and in the Caribbean by the prestigious Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA).

The Bachelor in Hotel and Restaurant Administration consists of a broad and varied curriculum, which contains general education courses, core courses and courses aimed at the areas of emphasis for a total of 132 credits distributed in nine semesters. Studying this discipline creates theoretical and practical learning activities aimed at students to plan, direct and coordinate administrative and service functions in work settings, such as: hotels, restaurants, casinos, cruise ships and convention centers.

Also, our graduates are hired by companies dedicated to the importation, sales and marketing of food products and services, and in institutional segments related to food and beverage services, among others.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify and apply the knowledge and skills necessary for hospitality and tourism operation.
  2. Develop and integrate a core set of business skills necessary to successfully operate a hospitality and tourism organization.
  3. Demonstrate competence in the communication skills necessary for hospitality and tourism management.
  4. Formulate business decisions in hospitality and tourism management.
  5. Evaluate leadership principles necessary in the diverse and global hospitality and tourism industry.
  6. Demonstrate bilingual effective communication (Spanish and English).

Accreditation of the School of Hotel and Restaurant Administration

The School’s academic offerings are innovative and unique throughout the University of Puerto Rico System. There are elements of vital importance that support the distinctions and continuous achievements of its faculty. Among these, having achieved autonomy as a professional hospitality school and being the first institution in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean to achieve accreditation of the Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration, under the rigorous standards of the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA), initially obtained in the summer of 2009 and ratified again in the summer of 2016.
